Title: Beauty in trauma: vibrant souls

Vibrant Souls documents Annie Frost Nicholson's return to New York City in 2018, having lost many family members in an accident in the city in 2011. Annie undertook a month-long residency at De-Construkt in Red Hook, NYC, as part of a site-specific commitment to reappropriating the pain of traumatic loss through the lens of visual storytelling, reclaiming some of the spaces where she navigated some of the darkest days of her life through public art interventions. This marked one of the key starting points of her long journey exploring time, memory, grief and the continuum between life and death.

Annie Frost Nicholson (formerly The Fandangoe Kid) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose work seeks to smash taboos around the nuanced complexities of the human condition. Through a curious, colourful and considered lens, Frost Nicholson’s practice looks at what it means to be alive, and her preoccupation with life, death, grief and all their permeations follows her own devastating loss of family members twelve years ago, at the age of twenty-seven. Her work has been shown widely internationally including The Ace Hotel NYC, Latitude, Design Museum and Tate Modern.
